Over the past couple of year’s Stella Technology has had the opportunity to participate in the annual HIE User Group meetings, an event that brings together some of the nation’s most prestigious public and private Health Information Exchange (HIE) organizations.
The HIE User Group meetings serve as a platform for the HIE organizations to share and network with other senior leaders about best practices around HIE, interoperability, analytics and the current industry trends and more.
A few of the highlights from last week’s conference included:
- Keynote “HIE: From Here to Eternity” presentation via Skype by John D. Halamka, MD, MS, Chairman of the New England Health Electronic Data Interchange Network (NEHEN), CEO of MA-SHARE (the Regional Health Information Organization), Chair of the US Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP), and a practicing Emergency Physician. Mr. Halamka provided an overview of the Massachusetts Health Information Highway or better known as Mass HIway. Read Halamka’s blog Life as a Healthcare CIO.
- Presentation by Mariann Yeager, Executive Director of Healtheway, on the Carequality initiative, and what they are trying to do with establishing a trust framework to enable query-based exchanges
- HEALTHeLINK, Western NY’s Clinical Information Exchange shared the use of HIE data for clinical/healthcare analytics
- NeHII (Nebraska Health Information Initiative) and HealthLINC (Indiana) presented on hospital admission reporting and notifications
- etHIN (East Tennessee Health Information Network) and the Santa Cruz HIE shared their Direct implementations, as well as the DirectTrust.org and EHNAC accreditation process they went through
Stella Technology also had the opportunity to co-present and hold a roundtable discussion with our customer, HEALTHeLINK, on the successes and challenges of the CCD/CDA/C-CCDA implementations.
It was exciting to see and connect with many of our customers and industry friends during this year’s event. The HIE User Group meetings are always an excellent venue to share and spend time with other senior leaders, who are improving the healthcare system today. Look forward to seeing everyone next year!
